Meet our Team

Our experienced, compassionate and trusted team is here to listen to your needs, help you understand the choices available and support you in your grief. We recognise it is often the small things that make a funeral or memorial service special – the selection of flowers and music, for example - and we are here to provide valuable advice and assistance to make it relevant and unique to your loved one.

Mike Savage - Registered Funeral Director

Mike has a diverse work background, which has contributed to his ability to connect with people from all walks of life. Many have been on the receiving end of his empathetic manner - important in his role of ministering and serving grieving families. Mike is a funeral celebrant, with the ability to officiate at all manne r of services with due respect to all cultures and beliefs.

He believes he has God-given skills in developing relationships with families and establishing bonds of trust so that people feel comfortable entrusting their loved ones into his care. In his role as a Funeral Director, Mike is often asked to bless a home and its treasured possessions - including Pounamu (Greenstone) pendants.

Mike is married to Dorothy and they have two daughters; Erana, who is a member of the NZ Police force in Hamilton and Taina who works as an integral member of the Legacy team. Mike enjoys family activities - which now include his granddaughters Brylee and Adah - as well as running, cycling, music and church (The Salvation Army). Mike is a serving member of the Tauranga Rotary Club, and an appointed Justice of the Peace for New Zealand.

Kiri Randall - Office Manager

Legacy Funerals is a smoothly run enterprise. Kiri ensures it is so. Kiri works in conjunction with the Directors and the Operations Manager to ensure the efficient running of all the day-to-day tasks and management required for the company.

Prior to joining Legacy she worked for ACC, in office management roles, and was a financial planner. She is married to Sean and has two school-aged children; Madison, and Taimana. Kiri feels privileged to assist families 'behind the scenes' and enjoys working with the team at Legacy and with their external suppliers.

Don Hoult - Funeral Director

“This job is all about life,” Don can often be heard saying. He feels privileged to meet families and hear their stories. An accomplished public speaker, Don is happy to assist families through his skill as a funeral celebrant - especially smalle services.

Don’s finely tuned interpersonal skills come courtesy of years spent in the hospitality and real estate sectors. He, and wife Debbie, formerly owned and operated Tauranga’s Bell Lodge Motel and Backpackers, before moving on to the world of real estate.

Don, Debbie, and their four children, moved to Tauranga in 1993 after selling their sheep and beef farm. Don has forged strong links with the local community through his involvement with Holy Trinity Church and Bethlehem College where he spent seven years on the Board of Trustees and more recently as a member of Otumoetai Rotary Club. He is also a Marriage Celebrant.

Annie Innes - Funeral Director

Annie was so keen to become a funeral director, she even moved to Australia – with her husband and their three children in tow – to gain work experience. The move is an example of her dedication and determination to get into an industry where helping others takes priority.

Annie has a strong sense of community, and the community she loves is Tauranga based. It’s little wonder then, that Annie and family returned to Tauranga where Annie has been welcomed into the Legacy family. It’s a great fit, she says, as Legacy is so focused on giving back to the community.

Annie says helping others is a key motivator in her life. She says there is nothing more rewarding than helping others in their hour of need.“Losing a loved one is one of the most emotional times in our life; and if I can ease the emotional roller coaster just for a minute then it's all worth it.”

Damon McCown - Embalmer

Damon has plenty to keep himself occupied with when not at work as an embalmer. Ancient societies, alternative history, physics and astronomy are subjects that captivate him. He enjoys listening to, and playing, music and has an avid interest in photography. He admits to spending a sizable amount of money on camera lenses … apparently you can never have enough.

He also enjoys his job and feels privileged to have the responsibility of looking after families’ loved ones during what are often extremely difficult times. His varied work background includes time spent in Aviation Security, in dog control, and as a flight attendant.

Darin Friis - Funeral Director

Darin feels humbled to be able to assist families by offering the ceremony that best honours their loved one. He is especially valued for his people and organisational skills. Darin is married to Ngareta and they have three young children. When he’s not at work Darin enjoys spending time with the family, particularly camping and having fun with outdoor pursuits. He also enjoys music and DIY projects.
