Writing a Eulogy

A eulogy is a speech given in honour of a loved one who has passed away. Eulogies are best kept brief with slight touches of humour, while capturing the essence of the deceased.

Some potential aspects to include in a eulogy are:

  • When and where the deceased was born
  • Nicknames and/or names known to others
  • Parents names - where they met and married
  • Brothers and sisters - place in the family
  • Early childhood - locality, interest 
  • School attended, awards gained
  • Academic or trade qualifications and achievements

  • Details of Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren

  • Detials of any hobbies or interests, travel, craft
  • Details of hisotical significance
  • Preferneces, likes and dislikes - activities e.g. music, theatre
  • And special stories, sayingsm qualities that are significant to others
